Today, the 11th Circuit Court of Appeals declared that a major component of the recently passed health care law is unconstitutional. The court identified the requirement under the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act that individuals purchase and continuously maintain health insurance exceeded congressional authority under Article I of the U.S. Constitution. Although the Court did not declare that the Act is unconstitutional as a whole, the individual mandate provides a significant portion of the funding for the law.
