The Miami-Dade County Commission recently approved two applications that could move the Urban Development Boundary (“UDB”) and allow more development on previously sacrosanct property.
The first application, submitted by landowner Bianca M. Castro, would move the UDB to permit a commercial project at the northwest corner of 32nd Court and Northwest 103rd Street. The Commission unanimously approved the application.
The second application, submitted by the Ferro Investment Group II, would allow business and office development on the southeast corner of Southwest 167th Avenue and 104th Street. The land is currently designated as agricultural land. The Commission approved the application in a 7-5 vote.
The approval will require the state to review the applications, providing greater clarification of Florida’s revised growth management regulations. This year, state law pared down Florida’s 25-year growth management regulations to allow for less state action and more local government control over their comprehensive development plans.
