Alison will serve as president-elect of the Broward County Bar Association. The significance of that isn’t lost on her. Alison, who grew up in Jamaica stated, “I want to do the best job I can to make everyone proud that a woman is there, a minority, an immigrant.”

She discussed the importance of mentorship opportunities, especially for students from underrepresented communities in the legal profession.  When Smith becomes president next year, she said she’ll aim to create more mentorship programs for students in the community.  “We need to take a holistic approach,” Alison discussed. “We need participation from board members who aren’t board members to be more inclusive and offer programs to the community at large.”

Alison also went on to discuss how she built relationships in the legal community at large.
