Milton Collins practices in labor and employment, employee benefits, and local government law. In the labor and employment field, Milton guides clients through employment decisions that can withstand judicial scrutiny. He handles grievance-arbitration matters that involve contract interpretation and employee discipline. He has served as the chief negotiator in the collective bargaining process, resulting in the successful negotiation of several union contracts.
Milton also litigates discrimination charges and lawsuits filed pursuant to Title VII, the Florida Civil Rights Act, the Public Employees Relations Act, the ADEA, and the ADA. He provides labor and employee benefits advice, drafts policies related to the FMLA, FLSA, PERA, and HIPAA, and policies addressing federal discrimination laws and EEOC regulations.
Milton is also very well versed in Florida public sector pension law and he uses that knowledge to develop and implement sustainable funding strategies. Milton drafts and amends pension ordinances and employee benefit plan documents, advises pension boards on all aspects of their obligations under state and federal law and provides pension insight on labor negotiations. He provides counsel on Florida’s Public Records Act and local government Home Rule powers.
